Domino’s Pizza announced in June of 2018 their plan to help with the pothole crisis sweeping across the US with their new “Paving for Pizza” initiative. Customers can nominate their hometowns for this pizza chain to repair the potholes plaguing your town in an effort to “help smooth the ride home” for their delivery drivers, and their customers who order carryout.
Over the course of this year, Domino’s is planning to dispense $5,000 to up to 20 different locations across the United States to fill in potholes and repair cracked roads.
“Have you ever hit a pothole and instantly cringed?” Russell Weiner, the president of Domino’s USA explains in a press release. “We know that feeling is heightened when you’re bringing home a carryout order from your local Domino’s store. We don’t want to lose any great-tasting pizza to a pothole, ruining a wonderful meal.”
Domino’s has already repaired potholes on roads in several US towns like Bartonville Texas, Milford Delaware, Athens Georgia, and Burbank California. In just 10 hours, over 40 potholes on 10 different roads were repaired by just 4 crew members in Milford Delaware.
The city manager of Milford was quoted on the town website saying “Facing an already harsher winter than usual for Delaware, this is an opportunity to get additional money to stretch our city’s limited resources.”
“The Domino’s campaign helps us showcase the importance of road safety, how we value partnerships, and how the city proactively and creatively provides quality services,” says mayor of Grand Forks, North Dakota, Michael Brown, “The concept of getting pizza to its destination.. Safely and efficiently resonates with our community,” he continued “ and again helps underscore how important good, safe roads are.”
